Request a Smoke Alarm Test

Working smoke alarms or smoke detectors are compulsory in all rental homes since the 1st of July 2016. If you think your smoke alarms are no longer working, or are unable to test them yourself, fill in the below form and we will be happy to come check and test them for you.

The compliance includes the following requirements:

  1. A smoke alarm must be installed within 3 metres of each bedroom; or one Smoke Alarm per bedroom.
  2. Smoke Alarms must be each level or story of a multi-story/multi-level home. 
  3. Smoke Alarms must be installed in all rental homes, boarding houses, rental caravans, and self-contained sleeping units with the following specifications: 
  • Must be Photoelectric
  • Has a battery life of at least 8 years, or must be hard-wired
  • Installed according to the manufacturer’s directions
  • Must meet international standards

If you want to be sure of the specifications of the installed smoke alarms at your current leased property, you may request for us to inspect the smoke alarms/detectors.
